11 First Date Ideas You Wish You Thought Of First

Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley LS29, UK

"Wanna go for a drink?" or "Fancy a coffee?" can get a bit tiresome when you're going on regular dates. Sometimes you want to do something that gives you an adrenaline rush or something that can challenge your compatibility with someone. A lot of people also find it very tedious when sitting opposite someone and just talking; there can be many awkward minutes of silence and bars can sometimes be loud, making it difficult to have a real conversation with the person you're trying to get to know.

Asking someone out on a date can be nerve-wracking in itself and sometimes you will be hit with the reply of "Sure! What would you like to do?" - This is where I come in to offer you these 11 exciting and unique first date ideas that will make you stand out in the dating game.

1. Escape Room.
Visiting an escape room with someone is a thrilling experience. Your minds have to work together to solve clues and unlock things; you're under pressure due to a timer to get out of the room. It gives you the opportunity to have a laugh with your date while seeing how well you can work together. Escape rooms seem to be an up and coming experience, and you can usually find one local to you with an easy google search!

2. Visit The Coast.
Whether it's Whitby, Scarborough or Seahouses, being near the sea brings tranquillity and relaxation, and it's the perfect atmosphere for a first date. You can stroll along the harbour, visit the arcades and eat fish and chips on a bench overlooking the sea. There is so much to do in seaside towns that you won't run out of things to do while you visit. If you live by the coast, why not have a change of environment and visit a city centre close to you.

3. Pub Quiz.
Sometimes going to a cosy country pub and doing their Thursday Night Trivia can be the best first date atmosphere! There is ambience, and dim light and each question in the quiz is a conversation starter. It's also an excellent way to discover your dates' interests and how much they know about current events and what genre of music they're into, an evening in a pub with a bottle of wine and a pub quiz is a good idea if you want something more relaxed.

4. Aquarium.
Visiting an aquarium with your date is an easy, no-fuss day. If you purchase your tickets online, you won't even have to queue. This idea is great if you like to walk around, it just means you're in a unique environment, and there's always something to look at and something to talk about with your date - This is an especially good idea for a rainy day.

5. Live Music.
Going to a small, local band's gig is a fantastic idea for a first date - especially if you're into your music! It's always good to support local bands anyway, but it means if you find chatting to someone you don't know difficult, you have the opportunity to embrace the music and go for a drink afterwards to talk about it which will hopefully lead to a further conversation!

6. Cocktail Masterclass.
If you would prefer to go for a drink, why not mix things up a little and attend a cocktail masterclass at one of your local bars? A mixologist will guide you to make delicious cocktails which you can drink afterwards! You will work together and have a giggle while making your favourite cocktails. What's not to love about this idea?

7. Strawberry Picking.
During Summer, the strawberry fields are busy with people picking their fresh fruit - This is a lovely idea if you want to impress a lady. It's like something from a romantic comedy film! You can pick the biggest and ripest strawberries from the fields and nibble at them as you chat with your date. - This is the perfect date idea for a sunny day!

8. National Trust Spots.
There are beautiful National Trust destinations all over the country. They usually involve a lot of walking in woodland or nature. There is a small charge at the majority of them but purchasing a National Trust card can be worth it when you realise how many beautiful spots there are so close to home. If you and your date love the outdoors, there are so many places you can visit!

9. Pottery Painting.
This is becoming such a popular activity in 2017. There are plenty of cafes that are doing it now for small children but it's a lovely idea because you're distracted by something while still talking to your date but if eye-contact is something you struggle with, you can put all your focus on your painting, and you have something to take home with you!

10. Trampoline Park.
If you're both fitness fanatics, visiting a trampoline park is an excellent way to work out as well as having fun! Going to the gym together would be a bit strange so doing this makes sure you can have a laugh together and show your date your backflip abilities!

11. Puppy Centre.

A lot of independent dog/puppy kennels have been opening recently and although you won't necessarily be buying one, (albeit, it will be very tempting!) who doesn't want to cuddle fluffy puppies all day and talk about how cute they are? Doing this is a good way to see your dates' sensitive and soft side, and if you're a hopeless romantic, that should be something to tick off your list!

What is your idea of a perfect first date?

50 Things You Would Never Ask Me

Hi Everyone!

I’ve seen a couple of bloggers that I follow on Twitter do this tag so I thought I would give it a go! There are 50 set questions that you probably don’t know the answers too. Here goes…

1. What is your favourite candle scent?

Yankee Candles are my absolute favourite thing to have in my bedroom and I used to be obsessed with the Christmas scents but now my favourite is ‘Red Raspberry’ it’s so fruity and smells like sweets when it’s burning!

2. What female celebrity do you wish was your sister?

Zooey Deschanel. I absolutely adore her as Jess in New Girl. I just think she’s so cool and stylish and someone that I can really look up to and admire.
3. What male celebrity do you wish was your brother?
I would say, Jason Segel. I find him hilarious in every film or tv show he’s in and he’s incredibly talented. I think he would be a proper laugh to be around! And imagine the speech he could prepare for your wedding, it would be comical!
4. How old do you think you’ll be when you get married?

I’ve always thought around 28/29 because that’s when my parents got married but I just don’t know how life is going to pan out. I’m almost 22 and it freaks me out how soon that has come around! So only God knows when I’ll be ready for marriage.

5. Do you know a hoarder?
I don’t know someone who genuinely hoards to the point where it’s obsessive but I personally hoard clothes. I physically find it difficult to part with them and give them to the charity shop. Even when they don’t fit anymore, something inside me says I’ll wear it again someday.

Countryside, easy.

36. Can you whistle?
Nope, I sound ridiculous when I even attempt to!

38. Do you eat breakfast every morning?

I REALLY try to but I find it difficult because I don’t usually have an appetite as soon as I wake up.
39. What medical conditions do you have?

I wouldn’t say it’s medical as I don’t take anything for it but I’m pigeon-toed which means my feet turn in when I walk. It usually only happens in children and mine was certainly worse when I was younger but I still have it and I hate it when people point it out.
40. How many times have you been to hospital?

For myself, once. But I’ve visited people and gone with people to A&E. I have a fear of hospitals though.
41. Have you ever seen Finding Nemo?

Yes! What a film.
42. Where do you buy your jeans?

I used to get them from New Look, without question. I worked there and got 50% off but their sizes have changed recently and I’m not happy about it so I’ve started spending more and getting them from Topshop, they last much longer from there too!
43. What was the last compliment you got?

That I was talented!

44. Do you usually remember your dreams in the morning?

Sometimes! But I have this thing where I go to tell someone about it and I can’t for the life of me remember what happened.
45. What flavour tea do you enjoy?

Yorkshire Tea!!! Beats all. But if I have a funny tummy, I love peppermint tea – it really settles stomach ache! I also don’t mind fruit teas.
46. How many pairs of shoes do you currently own?

TOO MANY. I don’t even want to count.
47. What religion will you raise your children to practice?

I will christen my children but it’s up to them whether they want to follow it.
48. How old were you when you found out Santa wasn’t real?

Haha, probably like 10 or 11 – people started talking about it but I refused to believe it until I was probably almost 12! That seems so old to still believe in Santa…

49. Why do you have a blog?

Writing is my favourite thing to do. It’s the best way for me to express myself and the blogging community is so welcoming and inspiring. I really need to throw myself into it more over the next few months because I do really enjoy it but sometimes find myself letting writer's block get the better of me!

50. Name 5 of your favourite songs ever
  1.      Take Me Home Country Roads – John Denver

Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley LS29, UK

Leeds Fest is always an idea that I've toyed with. I live half an hour from Bramham Park, where it's held so I never really understood what was holding me back. The majority of my friends have been over the past few years but I never joined them.

I realised that the camping side of it was probably putting me off more than I'd like to admit, I can become extremely grouchy when I've not had a good night's sleep and the thought of letting that ruin my experience is off-putting.

So, fast forward to last Thursday. I was sat in the office at work just ticking things off my to-do-list when I get a call from my amazing best friend. She works for a PR company in Leeds as an account executive so I thought it was unusual that she was calling me in the middle of a working day.

"AMY. I've got some good news." She shouted down the phone.

I sat upright in my seat, a tad confused. I laughed nervously.

"What?! What? Tell me!" I yelled back at her,

We both screamed in unison. I was pacing up and down the office. I was SO excited. We then proceeded to text each other over the next couple of days. "What are you wearing?" "Who are you most excited to see?" "Oh my god, there is gonna be so much food!"

The best part of this was, when the line-up was initially released, we were debating getting a Saturday ticket because our favourite band, Bastille were headlining on the main stage but we just left it too late and never got round to it!

On Saturday, we drowned ourselves in glitter and headed off to Bramham Park in Ella's bright yellow Ford Ka, singing along to the Bastille CD and repeatedly saying "it doesn't feel real yet!" to each other.

I had created us an itinerary with all the bands we both wanted to see and the times that they were on each stage. Luckily, we both have the same taste in music (and a good taste at that!) so there weren't any clashes and we were both happy with the incredible artists that we got to see live!

Firstly, we headed over to the Festival Republic stage and watched The Amazons. Their set was short and sweet, with a very mixed crowd. Finishing with 'Junk Food Forever', everyone was in a great mood as they left the tent! They were super good live, I recommend anyone who is into rock/indie music to go and see them!

We then wandered over to the main stage and caught a bit of Mallory Knox's set. I've never really listened to Mallory Knox and I had bought an amazing wood-fired pizza from one of the food vans so I was pretty indulged in that if I'm honest.

Next up, was Ratboy at 2:55 on the main stage. 'Laidback' is one of my current favourite tracks so it was fantastic to hear this performed live! I also have a really weird crush on Jordan Cardy so I wasn't complaining. They had a lot of people dancing on the grass and later on, we saw them in the signing tent and a lot of people went to meet & greet them!

I was SO excited for the next act. It was over at the BBC Radio One/NME Stage and it was Declan Mckenna! The first time I heard 'Brazil,' I had it on repeat for around a fortnight. He has such a cool style and his voice is so unique. I was so surprised at how he performed on the stage to say he's only 18. He oozes confidence and individuality and his music is just incredible. He releases tickets for his tour on Friday and I am definitely going to see him again! One of my favourite acts of the day. Also, you should follow him on Twitter - he is hilarious.

We then rushed back to the main stage to catch as much of Circa Waves set as possible. Ella had gone to a Circa Waves gig as press before but I'd never seen them live but they were incredible! Their sound is just too good and Kieran Shudall is such a good frontman, I sacrificed the end of their set because one of Ella's favourite bands clashed with it! (She did get me there for free, after all.) CIRCA, CIRCA, CIRCA FUCKIN' WAVES.

Next, we saw Oh Wonder. I had only ever listened to 'Ultralife' which I loved enough to add it to my Starred playlist on Spotify when I first heard it, however, Ella had been listening to them for a couple of years and you could tell she absolutely loved their set! I thought they were fab too, they were really likeable on stage and interacted with the crowd really well!

We then hovered outside the signing tent as we saw 'Bastille' written in chalk at a 5pm slot. We waited for an hour whilst listening to Anne-Marie in the BBC R1/NME stage and I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good she was live! At 5pm, I could NOT contain my excitement when we got this close to Dan Smith. I actually nearly cried...

At around 6:30, we were back at the main stage because Two Door Cinema Club was on! They were absolutely amazing, I was really kicking myself for not going to see them live before because they were seriously so, so good. My favourite songs that they performed were: 'Sun', 'Something Good Can Work' and 'Changing Of The Seasons.' It was such an incredible atmosphere, everyone was singing the lyrics so loud and it was impossible to not have a smile on your face!

And then, the moment I had been waiting for since I had received that phone-call from Ella... Bastille! This was my fourth time seeing them and I swear to god, I get emotional every time. There is something SO special about seeing your favourite band live. The first time we went to see them, the tickets cost £10! So seeing them come all this way is just an amazing feeling. They never fail to surprise me with their music and I will never stop buying tickets to see them live even when they cost me an arm and leg!

It was now pitch black and the best day of my life was drawing to a close, but we hadn't seen everyone just yet... Kasabian were next and oh my GOSH, they were bloody brilliant! You wouldn't expect anything less though, would you? Everyone was dancing, chanting the lyrics and having the time of their lives. The atmosphere was honestly just something else. I LOVED seeing them perform 'Underdog', 'eez-eh' and 'You're In Love With A Psycho.' Would definitely go to see them live again!

We also caught the last half an hour of You Me At Six, I had never really listened to them before but I was surprised that I actually quite enjoyed it! It was the kind of music I listened to when I was about 15 so it was a bit of a blast from the past!

It was honestly an amazing day and I'm so glad I went because I will DEFINITELY be doing it again if the line-up is as good as it was this year. The weather was glorious, the music was fantastic, I was with my best friend and we had the time of our life!

My 7 Biggest Pet Peeves

Ilkley, UK
We ALL have a list of little things that irritate us on a daily basis, don't we? Well, I certainly do. I love hearing about other people's pet peeves, it makes me feel like less of a bitch for getting wound up by the most ridiculous things. If you can relate to any of my pet peeves or have some even more outrageous ones, let me know!

1. People Watching Videos.

Ok, let me give this one a bit of context. It obviously doesn't bother me when people simply watch videos, that would be so silly. I'm talking about when you have the TV on or you're having a conversation and someone just starts playing a video out loud on their phone, the mixture of the noise winds me up so much and I get so aggravated.

2. Loud Chewing.

I feel like this MUST be on everyone's list of pet peeves. It's just so gross but it's frustrating because I know that I eat loudly myself, I can't even help it! There is just something so unsettling about the sound of pasta swirling around someone's mouth... That disgusting squelching sound - you know what I mean! *shivers*

3. Getting Onto A Train.

You know when you're getting the train in rush hour and as it pulls into the station, there is a little pool of people gathered around each door, like little huddles of penguins? I HATE that. I hate that everyone tries to get onto the train at the same time! And what's worse is the people that don't let the current passengers off, why do that?! Just so you can sit down a few seconds earlier? Ugh.

4. Replacing The Toilet Paper.

The headline says it all. Finish the last of the loo roll? REPLACE IT. Oh my gosh, actually, I don't know what's more annoying... When someone uses the rest of the roll and doesn't replace it or when they leave like half a sheet left that you couldn't even use to blow your nose. That's like they've thought 'I've left a tiny bit so I don't have to replace it yet but also the next person is going to have to replace it before they use the loo because there isn't enough there.' WHY?

5. People Who Don't Indicate

I recently passed my driving test and I've been on the roads for a fair few months now and I cannot stand it when other drivers don't indicate, it really pisses me off when I don't know what the car in front of me is planning to do. How hard is it to flick a bit of plastic down, really?!

6. When They Have To Be Right All The Time

People who can't accept that they're wrong. How annoying? Nobody is perfect. I mean, I can sometimes find it difficult to see where I've gone wrong in a disagreement but I'm talking about the people that make a fuss over little things just to make sure everyone knows that their opinion is the correct one and nothing else matters.

7. People Who Take Calls On Public Transport

I actually think this might be one of the things that irritates me the most. Why, why, WHY do people answer long phone calls on trains and buses? I can't deal with listening to one side of a conversation, they speak SO loud as well and my music doesn't even cover it sometimes.

I have so many more pet peeves, I'm a naturally easily-annoyed person so these are just a selection of them! Let me know if you share any of my pet peeves and again, tell me if you have any unusual ones!

The Ultimate Singing In The Shower Playlist!

Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley LS29, UK
Surely I can't be the only one who sings in the shower...?

No, I know for a fact that I'm not because I've heard some of my friends singing their own covers of Taylor Swift songs! (you know who you are.)

Everyone loves to have a sing in the shower using their bottle of herbal essences as a microphone and I want to help you out by sharing with you... The ULTIMATE Singing In The Shower Playlist. Whether you love to hit the high notes of famous love ballads or put the voices on for the most-loved Disney songs... There is something for everyone in this list!

You're welcome!

1. Flaws - Bastille
This is my favourite song in the world and the chorus is perfect to shout out in the shower. You'll feel like you're part of the band!

2. Let It Go - Frozen
We all wish we were Princess Elsa. I have a funny story about singing this in the shower. In one of my uni houses, my housemates' friend was visiting and I was GOING FOR IT. I was really singing this for all the world to hear and he joined in with me outside the door and it turned into a duet - magical!

3. I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston
Do I really have to explain this?

4. Stitches - Shawn Mendes
This is a proper 'grab your shampoo bottle and try your very best' song! The lyrics are so easy to learn as well. You'll give Mendes a run for his money after a week of showering!

5. Zombie - Jamie T
This song makes me want to dance but as a safety precaution, I advise that you hold off on the dancing in the shower...

6. Part Of Your World - The Little Mermaid
Who wouldn't want to sing this in the shower? You can even lie down and pretend to be a mermaid if you really want to...

7. You Make My Dreams - Daryl Hall & John Oates
Put it on whilst you wash your hair. Trust me.

8. This Love - Maroon 5
It goes without saying that this is an absolute tune. Even if you don't think you remember the lyrics, put it on and you'll be singing into your shampoo bottle in no time.

9. Mr Brightside - The Killers
Surely you were expecting this? JEALOUSSSSSY! TURNING SAINTS INTO THE SEAAA!

10. Umbrella - Rihanna
I love singing this in the shower. It makes you feel like you're in a music video when the shower water is pouring down onto you!

It depends on how long you shower for but I've definitely set you up for a karaoke session in the shower there!

Do you already have a shower playlist? Let me know in the comments what your favourite song to jam to in the shower is!

My Top 10 Instagram Photos!

Heworth, York, UK

Social media is something I love. The whole idea of it is so fantastic to me. Facebook can get you in touch with a friend you met on holiday 10 years ago, and Twitter gives you the opportunity to interact with your idols and inspirations! The whole concept of social media is scary for older generations but for us, it's part of our lifestyle and since I want to go into a career in social media, I thought now would be a perfect time to talk about Instagram.

It's easy for me to admit that I'm addicted to Instagram. If there was a way to see how many hours you spend on that app per day, put it this way - I wouldn't want to know! It's my chosen way to procrastinate, and I'll scroll down my feed for hours admiring the beautiful themes and flat lays!

I've seen various bloggers do this post so I decided to give it a go. Baring in mind that I have over 2,000 Photos ranging from 2012 to present day so this has been severely tricky for me. I think I will write up a few posts like this over the next few months choosing my ten current favourite photos just because I only managed to scroll down to 2016!

But here goes, these are my top 10 favourite Instagram photos at the moment and why :-)

It's super rare that my family get a good photo together as we're barely ever in the same place at the same time but this picture was taken on a family holiday in Northumberland before a fascinating day at a castle! We all look so happy, especially my Dad which always means a lot to me!

Just like the caption says, I am eternally grateful for Eloise. She befriended me when I really needed someone, and I think and (hope) she feels the same because the night we made friends she was crying her eyes out over a stupid boy, and I cheered her up. She is ALWAYS there for me and is so supportive and caring. Seriously, I'm sorry to anyone who doesn't have an Eloise Shaw in their life because you're missing out. I love this photo because I'd just had my hair done and it was our first night out in MONTHS, and I just felt super confident and content.

This photo was taken on the same holiday as number 1. It was my first summer with Hayden, and he joined us in Northumberland for a few days because he quit his horrible job where he was getting treated so poorly, and we just had the most care-free and happy days there! You can probably tell why I adore this photo.

Ugh. Looking at this now makes me feel so crap, but I wanted to put this in here to remind myself of how great I felt in Summer. I know we've just had Christmas, so it's okay to put a few pounds on, but I've lost so much self-confidence recently and looking at this and knowing I felt comfortable with myself enough to upload a photo of my body online makes me feel so good and motivates me to sort myself out!

Over a year ago, I found out one of my close school friends had given birth to this beautiful little boy! This is one of the first times I met him, and he looks so tiny and cute. He's getting so big now and oh my Lord it's scary, but you can tell from my smile how happy his little face makes me, so that's why this photo has made this list!

This photo makes me laugh so much. One of my friends pointed out how my suitcase makes this picture so dramatic. I was just going home for Easter, haha! But, this was a photo from my last shift at New Look. I worked there for around 2 years and met so many lovely people who I actually miss working with so much but wow, was I happy to leave! I needed a break from my house in York at the time and the only thing keeping me there was my job, so I decided to leave and work at home for a bit!

I hope Alys is reading this because of girl, I miss you SO much. This is the last photo of me and one of my best friends before she jetted off to Australia for a year. I love her so, so much and it hasn't been the same going home and not going to the pub with her or going for a little walk through our village together. She's back in Summer, and it's going to be THE best reunion ever. She's having an incredible time, though, and I'm so jealous of her. Love you love you love you.

This is my boyfriend's dog, she's a lovely little cockapoo called Amber, and she makes my heart melt every time I walk through the door. She's such a perfect little dog and instantly brings you out of a bad mood. He has another puppy called Lily now, and she is just as cute, but it's difficult to get a good photo of her because she's a little black cockapoo, so she just looks like a little ball of fluff!

This is one of my best pals. This photo was taken at a time in my life when I was super happy and getting drunk ALL the time. I've kinda stopped doing that now because I needed to get my head down this year but I remember Holly was so drunk this night and she was in such a funny mood and we get on so well, even better when alcohol is involved, to be honest! (I think she actually hates me sometimes) but she's decided to move in with me in Summer so she can't hate me that much, am I right?

And finally, another photo of my boyfriend and I! This picture was taken on a STRANGE night. He ended up in an ambulance because his chest went funny and I was just so drunk that I can't even recall the things I was saying to the paramedics. It was a night where our relationship became ten times stronger, and we've only got stronger since.

Please give me your Instagram links so I can check your feeds out and let me know if you've done a post similar to this!

Until next time,
